Landing Gear Blowdown System

Carleton has been supplying the emergency landing gear blowdown system for the Boeing V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft since 1988. We have delivered 17 systems in the low-rate initial production phase and will supply the system for more than 400 V-22 aircraft planned by the U.S. Navy, Marines, and Air Force. The system provides a pneumatic back-up to the hydraulic system to extend the landing gear when hydraulic power is lost. It consists of a composite pressure vessel attached to a manifold, which controls the discharge of gas using a direct-acting solenoid valve.

Features of this landing gear blowdown system include:

  • Fiberglass-wrapped bottle
  • Aluminum manifold
  • Schrader-type fill valve
  • Pressure relief valve
  • Pressure gauge
  • Operates with air or nitrogen at 2850 psi
  • Capable of being recharged
